World Hearth Day 2022 Cardiac screening of newborns is important at birth

World Hearth Day 2022: There are many cases of congenital heart disease in newborns. congenital heart disease (heart disease) These babies are also at higher risk of death. But, there is a lack of awareness among parents of children about heart defects in newborns. Therefore, if this disease is not taken care of in time, then it can also lead to the death of the child. For this it is necessary to conduct heart test of newborn babies after birth, say expert doctors. Dr Cardiologist at SRV Hospital in Goregaon, Mumbai. Jaideep Raje Bahadur gave more details about this.

Heart disease is not limited to only senior citizens or adults, but children and newborns are also seeing this problem prominently. You know that at present, congenital heart defects are being found even in newborns. In this disease, there is a hole in the heart of the child. Babies develop severe congenital heart disease when the baby’s heart is unable to supply enough oxygen to the body.

Symptoms:
Babies with severe congenital heart disease may appear healthy at birth. But severe symptoms can appear after a few days. Symptoms include bluish discoloration of the baby’s skin, cyanosis, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or limbs. Apart from this, eyesight, chest pain, low blood pressure, shortness of breath and weight loss are some of the symptoms that can be seen in babies. If the child has heart disease, there are symptoms such as not gaining enough weight, frequent lung infections, excessive sweating or partial milk intake. Genetics, maternal fever during pregnancy, consumption of harmful drugs during pregnancy, exposure to radiation, diabetes during pregnancy are the major causes of heart disease in children.

The mechanism of severe congenital heart disease is related to inadequate or defective development of the heart in utero. How is the heart made? This is due to a change in the gene that informs the body about it. Severe congenital heart disease can also be caused by chemicals or drugs, infections, or other conditions in the baby or mother.

Learn why screening is important for babies with severe congenital heart disease:
If a newborn’s heart is not tested at birth, serious problems can occur. This can cause the baby to have a heart attack, slow heart rate and reduce the supply of oxygen to the body. Also, if the child’s illness is not detected early, the child is likely to die within a few days or a few weeks. Therefore, after the birth of every newborn, it is necessary to check his heart. So that if heart related disorders are detected, immediate treatment can save the life of the child.
